May 20, 2025This course will illustrate the connection between trauma and its impact on regulation, relationship and academic, social, and behavioral struggles, all while working towards a better understanding of what influences behavior and what behavior is communicating. With better understanding comes a better response, one that supports healing, facilitates connection and builds resilience. This course will offer a working definition of trauma and will explore a simple antidote to the trauma response that is surprisingly at the fingertips of anyone at any time. This experience gives participants the opportunity to put on a trauma sensitive lens and explore the “trauma goggles,” to deepen understanding of the impact of trauma on the mind, body, and soul. A practical overview of basic brain function and impact of trauma on the brain’s organization, function, and structure, especially the stress response system. This course incorporates current research and perspectives from neuroscience, including the work of Dr. Bruce Perry, Dr.Besse van der Kolk, as well as numerous other sources.
