Health & Wellness Webinar Series
October 16, 2025
12:00 pm – 1:00 pm
ECECD invites you to a Health and Wellness Webinar titled “Sensory in a Nutshell: Changing the Story.” The session will be presented by Meg McLaughlin, MS, OTR/L, Occupational Therapist with the University of New Mexico Center for Development and Disability (CDD)
The webinar will be held on Thursday, October 16, 2025, from 12–1 p.m. via Zoom. Spanish interpretation will be available. No registration is required, and participants may request a certificate of completion following the event.
About this webinar:
One in six typically developing children experience sensory processing difficulties. The prevalence is much higher in neurodivergent individuals. However, sensory issues can be an overlooked contributor to every-day challenges for young children and their families. We know that early intervention is key to set children up for success. Identifying sensory differences early-on can completely change a child’s developmental trajectory. Becoming aware of sensory-related challenges can shift the narrative from he won’t, to he can’t (and needs support). In this presentation, we will learn about our senses and how they support day-to-day functioning within our routines. We will discuss signs of sensory processing difficulties and explore ways to support children, as well as their families, teachers, or other providers.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this workshop, participants will:
Have a basic understanding of our 8 senses and how they support participation.
Be able to recognize signs of sensory processing problems within daily routines.
Develop a plan to: discuss a child’s (or caregiver’s) sensory needs; designate 5 minutes to observe through a sensory lens; or try one sensory strategy.
