May 14, 2025(4 events) – New Mexico has a high poverty rate, ranking it the third poorest state in the country. Wages are not high enough to meet the rising cost of living. There is a shortage of affordable rental homes available to extremely low income households. Many of these households are severely cost burdened, spending more than half of their income on housing, and a whopping 33% of income on food. With high rates of food insecurity, too many adults and children suffer from nutrition-related chronic conditions, including obesity and diabetes. The mission of Shared Table is to provide healthy food & genuine compassion to neighbors in need. The primary vision is that everyone in Taos County has enough to eat, and has access to nutritious food. With grant support, we also help with diapers to parents, grandparents, and school programs who have need of them. 8:30am – 11am at El Pueblito United Methodist Church (El Prado) – La Jicarita Food Harvest Food Bank coordinates 8 community volunteers who distribute food bi-monthly to 522 community members. It is clear that food insecurity is a major issue for many communities. With the advent of COVID-19, this food insecurity level is increasing, and rather dramatically for many families and communities. Food distribution helps alleviate that stressor. Food distribution is the second and fourth Wednesday of the month, beginning at 9:30am. info@mascomunidad.org www.facebook.com/MASComunidadNM 575-587-1792 – La Jicarita Food Harvest Food Bank coordinates 8 community volunteers who distribute food bi-monthly to 522 community members.
